I listened to the latest Expanded podcast by @tobemagnetic with @briannawiest and something she said deeply resonated with me:

“I do believe that part of the reason we experience challenges is because it’s life’s way of asking us, do you really want this? You will not really know until you’re challenged with it.”

It’s been seven months since I launched my Life & Leadership Coaching practice. Many beautiful things unfolded with ease — especially at the beginning. And now, I’m starting to meet the inevitable challenges.

Another coach I admire @staceyboehman breaks down the role of a coach into three identities: Coach, Leader, and Entrepreneur. The first two feel natural to me — I’ve always been drawn to tools that support my growth in those areas. The Entrepreneur identity, on the other hand, stretches me. I’ve never run my own business, and I’m on a steep learning curve.

Easeful beginnings are something I’ve known before. My first job as a professional dancer — at just 17 years old — was my dream job: performing with Cirque du Soleil in Las Vegas. It came with such grace and serendipity. Of course, my dance career didn’t remain easeful through every chapter. I wish I had heard Brianna Wiest’s message back then. I think it would’ve helped me trust the path I was on — rather than doubting myself or the direction, just because it became difficult.

My coach @amberkrzys reminds me:

Everything is happening for the health of your system.

Or as I like to say:

Everything is always working out for me… and only always.

Today, I needed the reminder to open when I meet challenge, rather than close.

To me, opening is an act of faith — letting the light in to resurrect hope that has met a kind of death.

Wherever you are, pause. Ask:

“Am I open, or closed?”

Meet what’s true. Neither is right or wrong.

And guess what? Eventually, you will open again.

With Love,

Gillian
