As a dancer and actress, my desire was to touch the edges of the human heart. I thought that if I was able to go there within myself, then my audience would be able to go there within themselves. When I was young, I was scared to feel my inner swamp, and as I got more comfortable with the difficult aspects of my human experience, I felt I could help others not be afraid of theirs.

I’ve lived into the truth that what we NEED the most, we also want to GIVE the most. I needed permission to feel my difficult emotions, as well as a hand to hold while I did.

So, today’s meditation is that gentle hand reminding you that when you feel out of balance, or you’re taking things personally, or feeling exhausted, pause. Notice if there’s something that’s asking to be felt. Maybe it’s heartbreak, sadness, anger, or some other upset. Welcome it. Turn towards it. Give it permission to take up as much space as it needs.

(Fun fact: It takes 90 seconds to feel an emotion. If it lingers for longer it’s because a thought is keeping it alive)

An emotion is simply energy that wants to move. You don’t need to understand it, but you can ask it what it needs. You can get curious about it. You can tend to it. And as you do, notice that you are both the holder and the held.

May you touch the edges of your human heart with tenderness and awe. You, all of you, belongs.

Have a great week, friends. Be tender with yourself.

With Love,

Gillian
