This week, we welcome a Leo Full Moon. I resonate with the symbolism of the full moon illuminating our innermost being, perhaps those aspects of self that are hidden in the shadows.
When we traditionally think of Leos, we might think of performers. My Moon is in Leo, and as a performer for most of my life, that tracks. However, when I think of my true Leonine generosity, it’s when I share my heart, my innermost being or my “naked” truth, that I’m able to “touch the edges of the human heart”. In other words, if we think of performing as an act of service, then it’s in generously sharing my being that I can be of greatest service. Creating and performing this piece @juilliardschool was the first time I allowed myself to be this courageous on stage.
Let’s look closer at the word courage, often associated with the Lion. The root “cor” means heart. In certain traditions, the heart is referred to as “the seat of the soul” or “ innermost being”. In today’s culture, we tend to relate courage to someone who is brave, valiant or strong. One who is able to meet danger or trouble without fear.
I’ve always felt like the bravest thing I’ve ever done is meet what is true within me. It feels terrifying! Everytime. Not only to reveal this truth to someone else, but first and foremost to myself. It feels exposing or “more than naked”, as I say.
I’m learning that the Ego resists meeting the Truth, because in the moment of doing so, all the stories it’s woven, fall away. The Ego cannot survive Truth.
Having the courage to reveal the truth to myself, or someone else, has always led me to deeper connection, more alignment, and ultimately more well being.
Can you be a little bit more honest with yourself this week? Courageously bring to light those things you’ve been avoiding?
May the spirit of Leonine generosity inspire you to share yourself more fully this week, inviting more honesty, connection and compassion into your life. May you notice the courage of others, and may it inspire your own to emerge.
With Love,
Gillian
