This past Saturday my Poppy passed away, surrounded by loved ones singing to him. I know he would have loved that. Throughout my life he shared several jingles with me. My favorite being:
“It’s a lovely day today,
So whatever you’ve got to do,
You’ve got a lovely day to do it in, that’s true.
It’s a lovely day today,
And whatever you’ve got to do,
I’d be so happy to be doing it with you.
But if you’ve got something that must be done,
And it can only be done by one,
There is nothing more to say,
Except it’s a lovely day for saying,
It’s a lovely day!”
I often sing this to myself on Monday mornings when I’m resistant to getting on with my to-do list. It will now remind me of the preciousness of life, and the gift of my list. The things on that list are there because of the life I want to create and the world I want to see.
The world feels overwhelming right now. Some days it’s hard to know where to begin. If that’s you today, start here:
1. How are you? Do you feel regulated? If the answer is no, I invite you to do a simple breathwork practice. Box Breathing: Inhale for a count of four, hold your breath in for a count of four, exhale for a count of four, hold your breath out for a count of four. Set a time for two minutes and just breathe.
2. How are you now? Notice.
3. Now tune inwards and ask yourself if there is a fear getting in the way of taking the next step. If so, what would it take to turn your fear into faith? What’s the worst thing that could happen if you posted that thing, called that person, or turned towards that uncomfortable part within yourself? When I shine a light on my fear, I have less resistance to taking action, and in turn, strengthen my faith muscle.
4. From this place beneath fear, what is your Soul urging you to do? What’s the big picture here? When I remember my primary choice - what I want to create - the secondary choices, the day to day, feel much more energized and inspired.
5. Sing this song to yourself and go do the thing!
Poppy, I love you. Thank you for all the laughs, stories and songs.
Wishing you all a lovely day.
With Love,
Gillian
